Executive Committee will consider a report in November meeting

Warwick District Council’s Executive Committee will consider a report detailing how sports and leisure services may be improved to respond to increasing demand as the district grows over the coming decades.

The report, which will be discussed on 5th November, brings together the results from a number of areas of work. Collectively these suggest there is scope to make a significant change in the service provided; to modernise and expand; to reduce the financial support the service requires; and to offer customers an improved range of opportunities.

Portfolio Holder for Cultural Services, Councillor Sue Gallagher says, "There are exciting opportunities for the council to secure the right mix of facilities, which are fit for purpose, and which make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of the district for years to come."

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Andrew Mobbs says "It is important that we consider the best ways to continue to provide this service by seeking to both invest in the future and reduce the financial burden of such facilities. These proposals could provide a valuable contribution to the district in many ways."

Councillors are being asked to give the green light to develop detailed studies, surveys and feasibility reports to provide greater certainty around the likely costs and benefits. Decisions on where and what to invest and how the service may be operated can then be made on the best possible information in the summer of 2015. Until then customers, partners and staff can rest assured that no decisions have been taken.
