Warwick District Council is working with Warwick District - Council for Voluntary Service in distributing grants of up to £200 for local residents to help secure their homes against possible future flooding.

Following the flooding various parts of the district sustained last summer, the council applied for a government grant to assist homeowners. A total of £30,000 has been received and will be distributed in grants of up to £200 to individual, private homeowners. Anyone in Warwick District is eligible to apply, regardless of whether or not their home was affected by last year's floods. A minimum of 150 grants will be awarded, on a first come - first served basis.

The grant can only be used to purchase flood alleviation items such as flood boards, sealant or air brick covers.

Homeowners can apply for the grant by purchasing the items themselves, submitting receipts and be reimbursed, up to the value of £200. The scheme will be administered by CVS on behalf of the Council.

Councillor John Hammon, Portfolio Holder for Development, and himself a victim of the floods said: "This scheme is designed to help homeowners safeguard their property against future flooding. We can’t predict the next time we are going to get a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours, but we can take steps to help prevent damage as and when it re-occurs. I would encourage homeowners, particularly those who were affected, to invest in protecting their properties and apply for their grant."

Application forms are now available via the following methods:

The scheme will run for a period of 12 months, or until the funds are exhausted.
