Core Strategy

The Council is currently preparing its first Core Strategy which is the key plan within the Local Development Framework.  This will contain:

• a long term vision (10+ years) for the future development of the District;
• the strategic objectives needed to deliver the vision;
• a delivery strategy for achieving the strategic objectives, including how much development is intended to happen where, when and by what means it will be delivered; and,
• the arrangements for managing and monitoring the delivery of the strategy.    

The timetable for the production of the Core Strategy can be found in the Local Development Scheme.  The Council is currently working towards a "preferred options" consultation in Spring 2009.

The Council has so far undertaken two stages of consultation:

Options

The Council published an Options Paper for public consultation between 15th May and 10th July 2008.  To support the consultation, the following documents were produced:

• An Options Paper, available on our LDF e-consultation system (also a downloadable version of the Options Paper (785kb, PDF). 
• A Background Technical Paper (943kb, PDF).  This gives more information on the options chosen.
• An Options Booklet (600kb, PDF).  This is a summary document which focuses on the key features of the five options chosen for the consultation.

The Report of Public Consultation on the Options summarises the representations made to this consultation.

Issues

Prior to the options, the Council published an Issues Paper that set out the key planning issues that it considered would affect Warwick District in the period up to 2026.  This consultation ran from 23rd November 2007 until 18th January 2008.

Evidence

The Council are currently preparing a number of technical documents that will support the Core Strategy.  These will be published on the website and include the following:

• Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
• Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

Sustainability Appraisal

As part of preparing the Core Strategy, the Council is required to undertake a Sustainability Appraisal to inform its policy choices. The first stage is the Scoping Report which can be viewed below:

For the Core Strategy, we are using a Local Development Framework (LDF) Consultation System.  You will be able to make comments on every stage of the Core Strategy using this system.  In order to complete any online consultations, follow the instructions on to how to register, found on the first page of the LDF consultation system. The registration process is secure and only needs to be done once. It enables the Council to get back to you and also inform you of future planning consultations.
