Monthly prize draws

Householders across Warwick district are being encouraged to recycle as much of their household waste as possible to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and are being encouraged and rewarded for doing the right thing by monthly prize draws.

Councillor Shilton, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services said "it is alarming the amount of recyclable material households are still throwing away, it’s simple – the more we recycle the more money we can save as a result, which in the end is helping us keeping council tax the same as last year"

Three years ago over 46,000 properties were issued a 180 litre grey bin – which is for non recyclable household waste only. This size has proved to be an appropriate size for a family of up to 5 people and is working for the majority of properties but there are some who are finding this more difficult. On average a household with a grey and green bin can recycle up to 80% of their waste. Residents who need more information on how to manage their waste should contact the Recycling Team. Community Recycling Officers are available to visit householders at a time to suit them.

As part of this recycling drive, residents who regularly overfill their grey bin or put out additional sacks next to their grey bins will be contacted by the team of Community Recycling Officers. This team will ensure that the family has a big enough bin, (as families of 6 may qualify for a bigger bin, and families of over 8 may be given an additional bin, if the family are recycling all they can) and that they have all the recycling containers and information available to enable them to fully recycling.

Prize draw

The collection crews are working in partnership with the Community Recycling Team identifying and recording properties presenting excessive amounts of waste, in order to highlight residents who may need additional support. The team also give out thank you cards to properties that are recycling.

Residents’ can send the cards back to the team to be entered into a monthly free prize draw where residents can win £50 – just for recycling.
