Proposed reform of library services

Page Last Updated: 31 Oct 2011

Warwickshire County Council are proposing a major reform of services in order to meet their reduced budget. £2 million will be cut from the Library and Information Service budget. The proposal is a complete re-shape of the current library service and how it can remain sustainable in the current financial climate but also meet the needs of Warwickshire communities.

The main points of the proposal are;

  • Closure/co-location of 16 library buildings identified as being no longer sustainable
  • Reducing opening hours of the remaining 18 library buildings
  • Reduction of mobile libraries from five down to three

In Warwick district there are no proposed closures of library buildings. There are changes in opening hours proposed for the libraries in Kenilworth, Lillington, Warwick and Whitnash.We currently offer a wide variety of services to our customers in One Stop Shops, currently based in Kenilworth, Lillington and Whitnash libraries. At our One Stop Shops you can make council tax enquiries, apply for a bus pass or a disabled parking badge, find out about local leisure services and make enquiries about street lighting and roads. The proposed changes to library opening hours could affect the provision of these services.

Have your say

A three-month public consultation plan has been drawn up to give local people their say in discussing these options.

Anyone who lives, works, or is being educated in Warwickshire will be invited to make their views known by completing the consultation questionnaire, and/or by attending one of a series of public meetings.

The consultation takes place until June. Visit the Warwickshire County Council website for full details.
