Control of the council
Following the last election in May 2007, and subsequent by election in June 2009, the political composition of this council is

- Labour (9 seats)
- Liberal Democrat (9 seats)
- Independents (5 seats)
Their is no overall control of the Council at present. The Leader of the council and the executive is Councillor Michael Doody.
