Backdated benefit

 

Claims can be backdated for a maximum of 6 months (for working age claimants) or 3 months (for pension age claimants) from the date of request. You must be able to provide good reason for a claim not being provided at an earlier date.

  • Each case is considered on its own merits and, as such, we are unable to guarantee that backdated benefit will be agreed.
  • You must provide as much information and detail as possible together with any supporting evidence.
  • Backdate requests must be made in writing.

Over 60s

Men aged 60-64 are classed as working age but are also entitled to claim Pension Credit. If the customer or partner are receiving Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, the six month limit applies.

If the customer is claiming Pension Credit (and there is no partner receiving Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance) the three month limit applies.
