Rural Footway Lighting

Rural Footway Lighting

Warwick District Council Engineering are continuing with its rolling program to replace the remaining mercury based filament (MBF) lamps in the rural footway lighting areas of the district within the limited budgetary constraints.  MBF lamps will no longer be obtainable within the next 12 months and cannot be stock piled as this is illegal due to their mercury content.  Due to climate and environmental change agendas, legislation is soon to be brought in by the European Commission to ban the use of mercury in lamps.  These lights will be replaced by modern efficient sodium units. In the interests of efficiency to reduce the cost of electricity consumption, it has been decided to replace mercury lamps outside the conservation areas first, due to the high cost of special lamps and columns being required in conservation areas.
