About the crematorium
The Crematorium was established in 1971, within Oakley Wood, a site having natural beauty and giving an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. There is an abundance of bird life in the grounds and quietness and patience are often rewarded by the sight of more timid species. Rabbits, grey squirrels, foxes, badgers, moles and muntjac deer are among the mammals that have made Oakley Woods their home.
It has been the constant endeavour of the Council to retain the character of the woodland setting. Restriction of memorials has, therefore, been necessary, and the planting of shrubs, trees and flowers by the public is not generally allowed. Donations can be made to Warwick District Council for the bulb fund, money donated in 2011 was used to redesign and plant the woodland garden just outside the South chapel, donations received in 2012 are being used to supliment snowdrops, bluebells and other woodland plants. There is no minimum donation amount.
The grounds encompass 21 acres, 7 acres of which have been set aside for a Woodland Garden of Remembrance.
Except in the Woodland Garden of Remembrance the only form of memorial permitted is the Book of Remembrance.
It is the Council’s objective that the whole of the grounds should accord with the original concept – that of a peaceful and permanent woodland.
For details of costs please see the council's fees and charges page.
There is a natural, green burial site at Oakley Wood.
We have records of people who have been cremated at Oakley Wood. We also have records for people buried in all of our cemeteries i.e. Leamington Spa (Brunswick St), Old Milverton, Kenilworth (Oaks Rd), Warwick. We do not have information for those buried in the closed churchyards we maintain.
Any requests for genealogical information should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org In the first instance, the request will be assessed and an estimate of the time required to complete the search. If you are looking for a specific person (one) and know the date, a fee will not usually be charged. If lots of information is required, or the information supplied by the applicant is vague (e.g. no specific dates) then there is a £60.00 fee for searching for genealogical information. The research will be carried out once the appropriate fee has been received.
