How your textiles are sorted and transported
What we collect
We have expanded the range of textiles we can collect for recycling. You can now recycle the following textiles from home:
> All clothing and paired shoes > Bags, hats and belts > Towels, sheets and blankets > Duvet covers and pillow cases > Curtains
Did you know? Over 70% of the world's population rely on second hand clothes.
Don't worry if your textiles are old, worn or damaged - we still want them. If they are unsuitable for reuse they are shredded and reused in other ways such as industrial rags/wipers. The textiles are sorted and then sent to Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe where second hand clothing is really needed. We cannot accept duvets, pillows or scraps of material at the current time.
There are 3 easy ways to recycle your textiles with us:
1. Recycle from home
Just put your old textiles in clearly labelled bags or our new textile recycling bags and leave them in or next to your red box on collection day.
2. Visit your local library or Council office
- Lillington, Kenilworth and Whitnash libraries
- Council Offices, Market Square, Warwick
- Council Offices, Milverton Hill, Leamington Spa
3. Visit a bring bank site in the district
- Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Leamington Spa
- Court Street car park, Court Street, Leamington Spa
- St Margarets Road Shops, Whitnash
- Chandos Street Car Park, Chandos Street, Leamington Spa
- Kennedy Square (Access via Lansdowne Street), Leamington Spa

Textile recycling bags
Warwick District Council has introduced a brand new bag to make textile recycling easier. The textile bags are made from recycled plastic. It is not essential to use the new textile bag, you can still use your own clearly labelled bag, such as a carrier bag, bin-liner, refuse sack, or unwanted charity bag turned inside out.
The new textile bags can be picked up from Warwickshire Direct offices, Council offices, your recycling crew or any of the Council's recycling road shows held regularly across the district (new dates will be added shortly).
Supporting local charities
Not only will countries in Africa and Eastern Europe benefit, but local charity Guide Dogs For The Blind is also being supported through the recycling scheme. The more textiles recycled the bigger the donation we make. We will be supporting Guide Dogs For The Blind until 2013.
Introducing Warwick, the Guide Dog Puppy...

As well as supporting the Guide Dogs for the Blind through our textile collections - Zoë, the head of our recycling team, is now puppy walking WDC’s very first Guide Dog puppy, aptly named Warwick. He has been coming into the office since he was around 7 weeks old and has slowly built up his time at work. He has a basket by Zoë’s desk where he can rest and sleep. He likes nothing more than coming out for a stroll round the office where he gets lots of fuss from everyone. Warwick is now 4 months old and such a clever dog. He’s learnt so many skills in such a short space of time. He is now able to join us at Road shows, school assemblies and talks where he will help us to promote the recycling of textiles and raise awareness of Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. When he is old enough he will go back to the GDBA where he will under go training and hopefully become a guide dog. Look out for a textile recycling bag which will be dropped in your red box during the next few weeks, fill it up and put it out for collection – this will help the guide dogs train more puppies like our Warwick.
