Red recycling box scheme

***Bank holiday collections*** Please put your recycling/refuse out as normal by 7am for collection.

We offer a multi-material recycling scheme in the district (red box recycling scheme).

There is no limit on the amount of recycling you can present as long as it is contained and presented properly. We strongly recommend using our containers as they are fit for purpose and can be replaced if damaged.

Kitchen caddies

Have you got your kitchen caddy yet? The caddy can be lined with paper or paper liners and this can then be emptied into your green bin. We now also accept compostable liners

RED/WHITE BAG

Card and cardboard

Eg. Cereal boxes, kitchen & toilet roll inserts, greeting cards and food packaging. Please flatten all cardboard packaging. Large pieces of cardboard such as furniture packaging should be cut into sections no larger than 1m x 1m (3ft x 3ft) to ensure that they fit in the collection vehicle.

Plastic bottles

All plastic bottle shapes/ colours; including drinks, household & cosmetic bottles. Plastic tops can be left on - squash the air out of the bottle and put the top back on. This will give you more room in your bag/ box.
N.B No other types of plastic i.e. margarine tubs, yoghurt pots etc. Plastic numbers eg. HDPE and PET are irrelevant.

Food and drinks cans

Including foil, aerosol cans and metal lids

Paper

Newspaper, junk-mail, catalogues, phone directories & brochures

Glass bottles and jars

Please rinse. No broken glass. For information about light bulbs visit the recycling sites page.

Batteries

Any household batteries. Place in a clear bag or one of our battery bags

IN A BAG NEXT TO YOUR RED BOX

All textiles

Clothes, hats, towels, sheets, blankets, duvet & pillow covers, curtains (In any condition). Textiles must be placed in a bag, (to keep them clean and dry) such as an old carrier bag, a labelled refuse sack or an unwanted charity bag turned inside out. PLEASE NOTE: We do not collect duvets or pillows.

Shoes

Paired shoes, bags, belts (In any condition)

Engine Oil

Used Engine in a sealed container.

Here's an example of how you can separate your red box:

Your recycling crew really appreciate it if your recycling is separated. The example opposite shows how you can separate PAPER, GLASS and CANS in just 1 box. Place your papers/ magazines in the middle of the box as a divider then put cans/ foil/ aerosols on one side and glass bottles/ jars on the other.
