Reduce your carbon footprint
Organisations that can help you reduce your carbon footprint locally include:
There is also a national web-based advice service provided by Act on CO2, and for larger organisations with energy bills over £50 000 a year the Carbon Trust provides government subsidised consultancy services.
Microgeneration technologies
Microgeneration technologies such as solar power, wind turbines and heat pumps are useful ways to reduce carbon emissions from new and existing buildings (and sometimes to earn income for the property owner).
The council works in partnership with several local organisations to reduce its own carbon footprint and energy costs, and to promote awareness and understanding of these issues in the wider community.
It is particularly important for property owners to get independent technical advice on microgeneration because the performance of small scale renewables can vary significantly (by a factor of 10 or more) depending on the location, shape and other aspects of your building. You should understand how well systems are likely to perform on your own building before submitting planning applications or investing in significant projects.
Is microgeneration right for your building?
Encraft have developed a series of free technical calculators to help property owners evaluate whether microgeneration is right for their building.
