A Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a key part of the evidence that supports the Core Strategy. Its purpose is to identify land and buildings with potential for new housing. The Council is required to prepare a SHLAA for its area and this was first published on 31st March 2009.
The SHLAA was subsequently revised in June 2009 to take account of two large urban brownfield opportunities identified in Leamington.
Review of the SHLAA 2010
The Council is currently undertaking a review of the SHLAA. This will include those additional sites which were submitted to the Council at the Core Strategy “Preferred Options” consultation stage. The Council also invited the submission of further sites from any interested parties. The closing date for the receipt of new sites was 29th January 2010. No further sites can be accepted at this stage.
Please note that the inclusion of a piece of land in the SHLAA is not an indication that it will be developed for housing or that planning permission will be granted. The Core Strategy will be the document that identifies which strategic sites are to be allocated for housing to meet future requirements.
