Core Strategy

Local Development Framework

The Council is preparing its first ever Core Strategy which will set the framework for managing the future growth and development of the District up to 2026.   The timetable for its production can be found in the Local Development Scheme.

As part of the process of preparing the Core Strategy, the Council has already consulted the public on the “Issues” which the Core Strategy must address, the “Options for Growth”, and most recently last year on the "Preferred Options" for how the Council manages future development in the District. Details of each of these consultations can be found below.

The Council are now working towards the preparation of its Draft Core Strategy, and are currently undertaking the following consultation on Alternative Sites.

Alternative Sites Consultation

In response to the "Preferred Options" consultation last year, a number of landowners have put forward alternative sites to meet future development needs. These sites have not previously been considered by the Council.  In order for the Council to properly consider these sites before preparing its draft Core Strategy, they are being made available for public comment.

You can view and comment on the online version of the Alternative Sites Paper or download the printed version (3.6mb, PDF).

Alternatively, you can fill in an electronic version of the Questionnaire (86kb, MS Word) and email it to corestrategy@warwickdc.gov.uk, or you can fill the questionnaire in by hand and post it to: Gary Stephens, Development Services, Warwick District Council, P.O Box 2178, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 5QH, or fax it to 01926 456542.

Please note all responses must be completed/returned to the Council by the 9th April 2010.

Preferred Options

The Council published a Preferred Options Paper (2.3mb, PDF) for public consultation between July 3rd and September 25th 2009.

All responses have been input into our LDF consultation system where you can view a summary of each response.  The Report of Public Consultation (286kb, PDF) provides an overview of the consultation and the comments received.

Evidence

The Council are currently gathering a number of technical documents that will provide evidence to support the policies and plans within the Core Strategy. These documents are available to view on the Evidence Base page.

Sustainability Appraisal

As part of preparing the Core Strategy, the Council is required to undertake a Sustainability Appraisal to inform its policy choices. The appraisal of the Preferred Options and the Scoping Report can be viewed below:

Options

Prior to the Preferred Options, the Council published an Options for Growth Paper for public consultation between 15th May and 10th July 2008.  To support the consultation, the following documents were produced:

The Report of Public Consultation on the Options (702kb, PDF) summarises the representations made during the Options consultation.

Issues

Prior to the Options, the Council published an Issues Paper that set out the key planning issues that it considered would affect Warwick District in the period up to 2026. This consultation ran from 23rd November 2007 until 18th January 2008.

You can read the Issues Paper online using our LDF consultation system.

For the Core Strategy, we are using a Local Development Framework (LDF) Consultation System.  You will be able to make comments on every stage of the Core Strategy using this system.  In order to complete any online consultations, follow the instructions on to how to register, found on the first page of the LDF consultation system. The registration process is secure and only needs to be done once. It enables the Council to get back to you and also inform you of future planning consultations.

Any queries relating to the Core Strategy should be sent to ldf@warwickdc.gov.uk or contact the Planning Policy Team on (01926) 456505.
