Extensions to buildings

An extension to any property can be a large investment. It is always worth weighing up the alternatives beforehand, for instance; moving to a larger property, or making use of other space such as a loft or garage conversion. Always budget for the cost of the extension and allow for a contingency sum.

It is important to check if any permissions will be required to construct the extension. Extensions to buildings may require a planning application be made - not all extensions will require planning permission. If you are considering extending a building, it is advisable to contact the Development Control section of the Planning department at an early stage.

Extensions to buildings, apart from certain exemptions, will always require a Building Regulations application be made. This is a completely separate process from Planning permission.
