Building Control - What we do

The Building Control section at Warwick District Council is made up of 8 Building Control Officers and support staff. The primary role of the section is to deal with applications made under the building regulations. This is not however our sole activity. Building Control also provides the following services;

  • Dangerous Structures - Inspection, advice and instigation of remedial works (immediate response)
  • Demolitions - Inspection and advice within 2 working days
  • Access for the disabled - Inspect and advise within 2 working days 
  • Safety at sports grounds - Inspect and advise within 2 working days
  • Temporary stands and structures - Inspect and advise within 2 working days
  • Cinema and Theatre licensing - Inspect and advise within 2 working days
  • Houses in multi-occupation - Inspect and advise within 2 working days
  • Fire precautions / fire safety - Inspect and advise within 2 working days

Performance Indicators

We regularly monitor our processes to try and ensure targets are met. Listed below are the results from some of our key performance indicators for the financial year 2011-2012.

Full Plans

  • New full plans applications acknowledged within 3 working days - 96%
  • Plans checked within two weeks - 93%
  • Plans checked within three weeks - 98%
  • Decision within two months - 100%

Building Notice

  • New building notice applications acknowledged within 3 working days - 98%

Dangerous Structures

  • Dangerous structures inspected within 2 hours of notification - 79%
  • Dangerous structures inspected within 1 day from notification - 96%

Commencement of Works

  • Inspection within one day of notification that work has started - 100%

Completion certificate

  • Sent out within 5 days of successful completion inspection - 97%
