Twinning

Town twinning is not a function provided by Warwick District Council but we do lend some non-financial support.

The links that have been established are the work of a number of local twinning associations, supported by the town and parish councils in the area.

Warwick

Warwick Twinning Association fosters friendship between Warwick, and its twin towns of Saumur, France and Verden, Germany, and its friendship town of Havelberg, in former East Germany. It co-ordinates and supports exchange visits between schools and organisations such as sports, professional and cultural groups.

Warwick was twinned with Saumur in 1976. Verden, already the twin town of Saumur, became our German partner in 1989. Havelberg, in former East Germany was adopted by Verden on re-unification, and was welcomed as a friendship town by Warwick and Saumur.

Individual visits between families in the twin towns take place as a result of the lasting friendships which have been formed through twinning. The Association's fund-raising events are also an opportunity for Warwick people interested in twinning to meet each other.

For more information about events, contact the Secretary, Roland Midgeley, 37 Warwick Road Southam CV47 0HW tel 01926 815824: e-mail: rolandmidgley@hotmail.com

Whitnash

Whitnash Town Twinning Association
The Whitnash Town Twinning Association was founded in 1989 in order to provide a cultural exchange between England, Germany and France to form contacts, friendships and a special relationship between two communities of different countries. We try to promote understanding about different cultures and lifestyles and encourage the exchange of views and ideas. It gives the opportunity for groups and organisations, individuals and families of all ages, levels and interests to meet their counterparts.

In Whitnash we have two twin towns, Weilerswist in Germany and Villebon-sur-Yvette in France. They have very different characters but one thing very much in common; strong bonds with Whitnash over many years.
