Get Active 2010/11



The 'Get Active' guide 2010/11 has been produced detailing a range of information to help residents get and stay active throughout the year, examples include; walking, volunteering, club support, London 2012 and local leisure centre information.

WDC 2010 OSCCA's Award

The Sports Development Team have achieved the 'Outstanding Service to Customers and Colleagues Awards. This recognises outstanding individuals and teams in delivering great services. The Sports Development Team would like to thank all the partners involved in the LSN as it's partnership projects such as the LSN which contribute to achieving such awards.

WDC Sports Development have delivered a successful holiday activity programme during Summer 2010 with financial support from WCC Positive About Young People. Approx 1522 contacts were made with young people throughout the summer.

Sport Unlimited Success

A total of approximately £45,000 has been awarded to community projects over the 3 years of the programme to increase participation in sport.

 Measured mile launch

Second Measured Mile Route Launched in District

The route at St Nicholas Park in Warwick was installed in October 2010 and follows on from the Victoria Park Measured Mile installation. Along the circular footpath of the park, the route is a great way for residents to stay active.

The Warwick District LSN has successfully supported and approved 3 lottery CIF bids.

  • Warwick Tennis Club: Received £12k CIF funding for resurfacing of tennis courts, with the total project costs at £60k.
  • Brunswick Gets Physical: £90k total project costs of which £45k was awarded through CIF funding to employ a sports development volunteer coordinator for 3 years.
  • Victoria Park Tennis: £24k total project costs of which £12k was awarded through CIF funding to develop a community tennis project at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa, and employ a development officer to drive the project forward over the next 3 years. 
 Club Development Night

A successful Club Development event held in Warwick District with approximately 65 representatives attending from 26 different sports clubs. The event increased engagement of local clubs and offered support on club accreditation, volunteering, funding and school-club links.

Get Active Week 2009 brochure produced and publicised a range of activities throughout the week across the district, including information from a variety of local partner organisations. 259 participants took part throughout the week.

Approximately £30k Sport Unlimited funding distributed to 40 local projects across sports clubs, NGB's, Schools, Youth Service and Leisure Centres.

Positive About Young People funding secured for delivery of Summer 2009 holiday activities which achieved 1635 contacts.

 Olympic flag raising




Flag raising events held in the District to signify the Olympic handover, they were held at Racing Club Warwick and Victoria Park, Leamington Spa in August 2008.

District sports directory produced in 2008, and website directory produced in 2009 listing approximately 98 clubs.

National School Sports Week held across the District in 2009, with approximately 6563 participants involved and 309 leaders.

Free facility usage offered to regional standard and above athletes as part of our support for gifted and talented.
