Powder puff plant
The powder puff plant has always been a favourite with visitors.

Pink Powder Puff (Calliandra haematocephala)M/STRONG>
Evergreen shrub with ‘puffs’ of pink blossoms that appear throughout the year, although spring to late summer is by far the best flowering period. Leaves are feathery, new leaves are glossy with a hint of copper, maturing to dark green.
Growing conditions
- Light – as much as possible, suits conservatory
- Water – moist throughout spring and summer, reduce watering during winter months, likes humid conditions
- Temperature – Warm – minimum winter temperature 60°F
- Pruning – not necessary, however, can be light pruned in spring to keep at a manageable size
Pests
The major pests to watch out for are mealy bug and aphid.
