At what age can I bring my child swimming?
The Amateur Swimming Association and health professionals recommend that infants do not swim until they are at least 4 months and have completed all their initial injections. Introduce very young children to the water gradually starting with short visits lasting no more than 10 – 15mins in the water. You may find the slightly warmer water in the leisure pool at Newbold Comyn the best choice for those early visits. Bring a towel onto poolside to wrap your baby in when you leave the water and buy some swim nappies to be worn in the pool (available at the centres receptions).
What age should children start swimming lessons?
The swimming pools offer a range of swimming lesson options ranging from Mums and Toddlers lessons (4 months+) to Pre-school lessons (3yrs+). At 4 years children will be able to enter the formal swimming lesson programme – contact the centre of choice or use the above link to see further details.
