The art gallery
Guide to the Art Gallery & Museum
The award winning Art Gallery & Museum includes an art gallery, local history gallery (with ‘Hammam’ room from the Turkish Bath), temporary exhibition gallery, children’s gallery, and an education room (shared with the Library).
Art Gallery
The Art Gallery is located in the former hydrotherapy pool at the Royal Pump Rooms. It provides a superb space for the display of Warwick District Council's permanent collections of 17th century paintings, 19th - 21st century visual art, and craft by major British artists and makers. Amongst the collections are works by Gillian Wearing, Terry Atkinson, Sir Terry Frost, David Jones, Simon Lewty and Jane Moore.
Children’s Gallery (‘Cabinet of Curiosities’)
The ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ is a gallery of interactive exhibits for 3-12 year olds. Here children can explore aspects of art, how artists work, examine objects and what we can learn from them, and also look at how and why people collect.
Local History Museum
The local history galleries, presenting the town and building’s spa heritage, are on the site of the former Turkish Bath, built in 1863. The displays tell the story of Leamington's development from a rural village to the modern town of today. Particular emphasis is placed on the discovery of the spa water and how it was used in the 19th century to develop Leamington as a health resort. You can also find out more about the medical history of the building by logging onto www.medicate.org.uk
Temporary Exhibitions Gallery
The Temporary Exhibitions Gallery presents contemporary and historic visual arts and local history displays.
The Collections
The Art Gallery & Museum has a permanent collection of over 10,000 objects in the fields of art, crafts, sculpture, local and social history, archaeology and ethnography. Most have been donated by local people, beginning in the 1860s and continuing to the present day.
