Get Active Week is taking place throughout the county between 27th June and 5th July and provides you with a great way to start being more active. There is a wide variety of activities running during the week including basketball coaching, tennis, bowls, health walks, circuits, yoga, and lots more for you to get involved in. Help Shape the future of Racing Club Warwick
Warwick District Council is inviting expressions of interest from individuals and organisations to help shape the future of Racing Club Warwick based at Hampton Road, Warwick.
The Council is offering a lease (term to be agreed through discussion) of the land on Hampton Road, Warwick where Racing Club Warwick runs a football club, social club and various community and sporting activities. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to develop innovative and exciting proposals which will provide long-term sustainability for both sporting and community activities. All applicants must be able to demonstrate a sound business plan that includes the provision of the following:
- Management and development of a semi-professional football club;
- Community sports activities for children and young people;
- Management of social club including bar and function room, and to workwith a range of community groups for the benefit of local residents;
- Partnership working with Warwick District Council to continue physical improvements at the site.
When submitting your Business Plan please ensure the following details are also included:
- Experience and background;
- Financial standing;
- Legal status.
Selection of the successful operator will be through interview and presentation of the Business Plan to a panel consisting of the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, Council officers and representatives of the current Racing Club Warwick Committee.A copy of the Warwick District Sustainable Community Strategy is available on request by e mail to jackie.height@warwickdc.gov.uk. Active People Survey Results 2008
The Active People Survey is a national survey carried out for Sport England throughout every local authority area in England. The survey measures participation, club membership, tuition, competition and satisfaction results. Did you know?
- Participation results in the district remain high (24.7%), the authority is ranked 3rd highest out of 34 local authorities in the West Midlands
- Results for all areas (participation, club membership, tuition, competition and satisfaction) are higher than the average for the West Midlands
This is great news for the District, but we want more people to remain active and enjoy all the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
Warwick District Sports Awards 2009
This years annual sports awards will take place in November at Leamington Town Hall and will be organised in partnership with the Leamington Courier. Further information on nominations and categories will be in the local press from the end of August.
Basketball Coaching
Weekly basketball sessions are currently taking place at Sydenham Sports Centre and John Atkinson Sports Centre and are open to all abilities. Sessions are just £2 so why not come along and give basketball a go.
- Campion Basketball Sessions - Tuesday evenings 7pm-8pm for 8-12yrs and 8pm-9pm for 13-16yrs at Sydenham Sports Centre, Campion School, Sydenham.
- Myton Basketball Sessions - Friday evenings 5pm-6pm for 8-12yrs and 6pm-7pm for 13-16yrs at John Atkinson Sports Centre, Myton School, Myton Road, Warwick.

Warwick District Local Sports Network
The group has been established in Warwick District with the aim of bringing together key partners in sport. Current membership includes Warwick District Council, NHS Warwickshire, Central Warwickshire School Sport Partnership, Warwickshire County Council (Young Peoples Division), Warwickshire Clubs for Young People, and Brunswick Healthy Living Centre.

Sports Coach UK Courses
The Sports Development Team are holding five SCUK courses throughout the year that are available to the public. This coming year the five courses available in Warwick District are:
- A Club for Alll - Thursday 10th September 2009
- Equity in your Coaching - Wednesday 30th September 2009
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children - Tuesday 3rd November 2009
- Coaching Children and Young People - Wednesday 27th January 2010

Funding Available for Sports Activities in Warwick District
Warwick District Council Sports Development Team has been allocated £19,345 from Sport England/CSW Sport to develop sporting activities in the district as part of the Sport Unlimited Programme (previously Extended Activities). Funding is available for projects for the period January to March 2010. Any clubs/groups that are interested in finding out more about this funding opportunity should contact the Sports Development Team on 01926 456221. Please note the deadline for submission of expression forms is 10th September 2009.

We're Getting Big on Play in Warwick District
Thanks to a Big Lottery Fund grant of over £218,000, we are going to get Big on Play with an exciting range of free play activities for children and young people. In partnership with the Arts in Warwickshire Education service and also the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, we will be providing opportunities for children to get creative with recycled materials and also have fun with a range of games and activities in our parks and open spaces.

Warwick District - Sports Clubs Audit 2009/10
The Sports Development Team has completed an audit of local sports clubs in the district over the past few months. The aim of the audit was to gather information on local sports club opportunities and to provide local clubs with the chance to publicise club information on the Warwick District Council website.
