Help with food costs

If you are pregnant and/or have a child under the age of four years and receive benefits, you may be able to get support from the Healthy Start scheme. You can get free vouchers every week to spend on milk, fresh fruit and vegtables or infant formula. You can also get free vitamin supplements. The weekly voucher allowance is:

  • £3.10 if you are pregnant
  • £6.20 for each child under one year old
  • £3.10 for each child aged over one and under four years old

Telephone 0845 607 6823 to request and application. It will then need to be signed by a midwife, health visitor, doctor or nurse.

School meals

The minimum daily costs of school meals are:

  • £1.60 nursery school meal
  • £1.90 primary school meal
  • £2.10 secondary school meal

Prices may vary depending on your child’s school.

You may be able to claim free school meals if you eligible.
