A guide to getting the most out of your housing service
How can you get involved with your housing service?
- By joining a residents group in your area, or setting up your own association where there isn't one
- By joining The User Group - an association open to all tenants and leaseholders across Warwick District
- Receiving housing-related training from members of staff
So what is a residents group?
This is where residents get together with their neighbours to discuss ways to improve their area.
What benefits are there of forming a group?
It encourages community spirit by getting neighbours together and sharing ideas with each other. You might decide to organise regular social events, like many existing groups are currently doing.
It will give you the chance to speak to your Housing staff on a regular basis. This is particularly useful where you have specific issues in your area, such as: the need to improve lighting or security/problems with neighbours etc.
Residents often feel more confident that their opinions will be listened to when they are part of a group. Your group will receive a start-up grant to help with the initial costs of forming your group.
You will receive any support you require from the Tenant Services Development Unit. To start with, this might be getting more of your neighbours involved and later on it might be helping with surveys/posters or providing transport.
Your group will be able to receive any training needed to improve the way meetings are run. Groups members will be welcome to attend any training sessions open to tenants across the district.
