Neighbourhood watch

There are currently 850 Neighbourhood Watch schemes/coordinators in Warwick district.

Neighbourhood Watch is the largest community safety organisation in the country. It is a partnership between the Police, Community Safety departments of local authorities, other voluntary organisations and individuals and families who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live. Neighbourhood Watch Roller Banner

Warwick District Council works closely with Mid Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch (MWNHW) to make communities feel safer. Formal meetings are quarterly and in December a bid to the Community Action Against Crime Fund was approved.

Whilst that bid was unsuccessful Birmingham University have agreed to work with MWNHW to explore what makes some streets and neighbours to work together and others not. The study will look at best practice and new technologies in order to identify the best way to engage with people.
the bulk of the work will be done from June to August 2012 with a final report due in early September.

MWNHW has participated in a number of Action Days with partners from the District Council, Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire County Council.  Most recently vehicle owners parking at Station Approach in Leamington were advised about security and late night shoppers were presented with a Christmas Menu raising awareness of acquisitive crime.

Warwickshire Police recognise the importance of Neighbourhood Watch and sends regular alert messages to coordinators. The watch message archive can be found on the Safer Neighbourhoods website.
