Who can claim housing benefit

If you 

• are on a low income (including self employed) - you don't need to be claiming any other benefit to qualify
• have savings that are less than £16,000 (different capital rules apply to people over 60)
• are responsible for paying rent
• are a certain types of student

you may be entitled to  Housing Benefit.

You should start claiming as soon as possible

If you delay claiming, you may lose benefit. You can apply even if you don't have all the supporting information, as this can be sent to us later.
