Who can claim council tax benefit?

Benefit entitlement

• If you are on a low income (including self employed) - you don't need to be claiming any other benefit to qualify
• If your savings are less than £16,000 (different capital rules apply to people over 60)
• If you have to pay council tax on your home
• If you are a certain types of student 

you may be entitled to council tax benefit.

You should start claiming as soon as possible. If you delay claiming, you may lose benefit, you can apply even if you don't have all the supporting information, as this can be sent to us later.
