The Council was required to undertake a Sustainability Appraisal of the policies of the Local Plan. This Sustainability Appraisal has been undertaken to assess the policies of the Warwick District Local Plan (Revised Deposit Version) that was approved by the Council in May 2005. It was prepared for the Council by consultants Entec UK Ltd.
The Sustainability Appraisal report is by its nature lengthy and complex. A summary of its findings can be found in chapter 1 of the report (Summary and Outcomes). Table 1.1 in particular identifies the main recommendations of the Sustainability Appraisal and indicates how Warwick District Council responded to these by proposing changes to the local plan. These changes were incorporated into the Revised Deposit Version of the local plan.

The Government required that the Council carried out its Sustainability Appraisal of the Local Plan in accordance with certain requirements which are set out in both its own Regulations, and a European Directive on “the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) of plans and programmes”. Since some of these requirements came into force after work had begun on the Local Plan, we were allowed to determine whether assessment (which fully accords with all the requirements) is feasible. The Council prepared a statement setting out whether such an SEA is feasible (85kb, PDF). This was sent to all those who made representations on the Local Plan.
