Warwick District Council provides information and services about Planning in partnership with the Planning Portal.

The Planning Portal site provides guidance and information about making planning applications, as well as access to National policy guidance, government statements, research information and links to many planning related sites. It is helpful to those wishing to undertake research into planning related topics or developing wider knowledge of the planning system.

Below are links directly into the Planning Portal which provide information supplemental to that found on our website:

Guide to the Planning Process

The guide offers a brief introduction to the planning system and some explanation of why planning controls are important and necessary. It includes general guidance about the kinds of work for which you need to apply for planning permission and those for which you do not. It is intended for both householders and business people.

Making a Planning Application

Planning applications can be made electronically via the planning portal. This allows forms, payment and plans to be submitted directly to the District Council via any internet-connected computer.

The forms are easy to use and can be completed electronically. As the Portal allows you to save your application whilst you are working on it, thereby allowing you to return to your work at any time, you can submit applications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A tool for calculating planning fees is provided enabling on-line payments to help simplify the application process and you can buy site maps and submit relevant plans or other supporting information with any submission. Alternatively you can complete the relevant forms, print them and then submit them by post.

To use this service you will need to register with the Planning Portal and create a User Name and Password. The Portal website also provides a Fee Calculator to help applicants calculate what the required fee for an application is.

Other Advice

The Appeals section provides information and guidance on the Appeals process. If you seek permission to carry out works to your property and your application isn't decided within a set period, or you get a decision from your local council that you disagree with, you have a right to appeal.

The Research section of the Portal is aimed at planning professionals and those with an in-depth interest in planning policy and reform.

Technical Assistance

If you have a technical issue that needs resolving (such as the Portal operating incorrectly or your login details not working) you can raise a Support Query with the technical support helpdesk by emailing support@planningportal.gsi.gov.uk.

Support queries should include the following information:-

  • a one line summary of the query/problem
  • name of person who found the problem
  • full description of the problem
  • where in the Portal the problem occurred
  • what action was in progress immediately prior to the problem occurring
  • description of the difficulties that the problem causes
  • full contact details

Please note that the Helpdesk operates between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
