Warwick District Council Energy Efficiency Grants

Who qualifies for grants?

Energy Efficiency Grants have been targeted towards households on low incomes who may need help to keep warm. The scheme has been split into two - one is aimed at people who are 60 or over, the other is aimed at all other households.

The grants are particularly aimed at owner-occupiers and people who rent their homes from private landlords, as this group contains the largest number of households in difficulty. (If you rent your home from Warwick District Council and have concerns about energy efficiency, please contact Mr Anthony White by calling   01926 450000).

Apply for an energy efficiency grant

What will it cost?

Your application for grant will be means tested, as is any other Housing Grant application. This will set your income and savings against standard allowances which are determined by your age, family make-up and any evidence of disability.

Should your income and savings be less than your allowances you will not have to pay anything. Should there be an excess of income and savings over allowances, an affordable loan will be calculated. This will be subtracted from the cost of the works and the grants will be the resulting amount.

What does the grant provide?

The Energy Efficiency Grant of up to £3500 will provide a package of insulation and heating tailored to each property, drawn from the measures listed below:

Insulation measures

  • Loft insulation
  • Draught proofing
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Hot water tank insulation

Heating systems

  • Gas room heaters and thermostatic controls
  • Electric storage heaters
  • Converting a solid fuel open fire to a modern glass fronted fire
  • Timer controls for electric space and water heaters

Extra measures

  • Energy advice
  • Two low energy light bulbs

The Energy Efficiency Grant for people who are 60 or over, in addition to the measures listed above, may offer gas or electric central heating systems with radiators in the main living room, circulation area, main bedroom and bathroom.

Who will carry out the work?

We will put you in touch with two or three experienced and qualified local companies whose work is known by Warwick District Council. The contractor who submits the best value estimate will be chosen to do the work. All of the works are inspected by Warwick District Council, and contractors are only paid when the work they have done is judged to be satisfactory.
