Althorpe Innovation & Enterprise Centre – the first brick in the wall!

Councillor Mrs Judy Falp, Council Chairman, recently performed the official bricklaying ceremony at the new Althorpe Innovation and Enterprise Centre in Leamington Old Town.

Progress is being made on the two-storey building now being constructed on the site of the old BT depot on Althorpe St which was demolished earlier this year.

Building work started on June 30 and is due for completion in January 2009.

Council Project Manager, Ray Smith said: “It is exciting to see the building taking shape. The Centre will fill a gap in the market where there is a shortage of premises for new and small businesses in the high technology and creative industries sectors”.

The construction of the new Innovation and Enterprise Centre marks the ongoing regeneration of the Leamington Old Town area with project funding of £959,500 from Regional Development Agency Advantage West Midlands ‘High Technology Corridor’ funds, reflecting the growing importance of local expertise in technology companies and the creative industries.

The Centre is due to open for business in February 2009.

Partnerships Manager at Advantage West Midlands Kim Rowlands said: “Althorpe Innovation and Enterprise Centre will create an entrepreneurial environment and provide new jobs. It’s an exciting development that will support new innovative business, provide new flexible workspace, attract inward investment and introduce new technologies."

The project will have an important objective of building up the potential and capacity of those who work and live in the area to meet the demands of new business sectors such as the IT and Creative Industry cluster.

Advantage West Midlands is delighted to be working with Warwick District Council to bring new jobs and improve the quality of life of people in Leamington by regenerating the Old Town.”
