A Government Inspector has strongly backed the Council’s Plan for how the District will look over the next few years.
The Warwick District Local Plan provides a framework for the planning decisions that will affect future development in Warwick District. It has been developed by the Council, in consultation with local people, over the last few years. This consultation culminated in a public inquiry which took place in 2006 and allowed anybody who objected to the Local Plan to put their views to an independent inspector.
The Council has now received the report of the Inspector following this Inquiry. In his lengthy report, the Inspector strongly endorses the strategy of the Local Plan. The main details are as follows.
- He supports the efforts made by the council to focus development within the district’s towns and give protection to rural areas.
- He has not supported any of the sites that were put forward by objectors to the Local Plan for additional housing or employment land.
- He has endorsed the Council’s approach towards providing more affordable housing.
- He has supported the Council’s approach to planning for its town centres and has not accepted any new sites for out-of-centre retail development.
- He has agreed with the Council’s policy approach towards further development at Coventry airport.
In welcoming this major report, Councillor John Hammon, Development Portfolio Holder said: "This report is excellent news for the Council and for the people of the district. It endorses the approach that we have taken towards planning responsibly for growth in the District whilst at the same time protecting our key assets; the quality of our environment, our countryside and open spaces, and our town centres."
