Kenilworth Public Service Centre
Proposals for a new combined public service centre for Kenilworth have moved a step closer following endorsement of proposals by the Council’s Executive.
A multi agency group comprising South Warwickshire Primary Care Trust, Warwickshire Police, Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council, Kenilworth Town Council and Talisman Theatre, has continued work on the feasibility of a combined Public Service Centre at Smalley Place, Kenilworth.
The new facility would:-
- provide a wide range of public services at a single location;
- create a “cultural hub” in the heart of Kenilworth
- aid the regeneration of the town centre; and
- would be cost efficient for all parties.
Since the rejection of the Abbey End site, the group has been working to determine whether this exciting vision for Kenilworth could still become a reality on the Smalley place site. Although there is much more work to be done, initial indications are that this may now be possible. The Public Service Centre could bring a further £6million of investment into Kenilworth town centre.
On Thursday 8th March, Warwick District Council’s Executive endorsed the proposal to build a public service centre at Smalley Place subject to all agencies being involved and the funding being secured.
What happens next? To enable funds to be released for the scheme, Wilton House in Southbank Road, the current home of Kenilworth Town Council, and the Barrow Road site of Talisman Theatre would be sold. The other key partners are evaluating how funding may be released to enable the scheme to progress.
Once the financial feasibility has been established further announcements and consultation will take place with residents including having the plans available to view.
