Warwick District Council has been approached by several people who have had to move out of their homes due to the flood damage. In all cases we have been advised that the work to repair the damage should be completed within six months.
We have advised those affected that the liability for council tax will stop on the day of the damage. From this date no council tax will be payable for the length of time the person is unable to occupy their home, for up to six months.
If the person is unable to reoccupy their home by the end of the six months, we ask that they contact the council tax department, as the exemption could be extended to a maximum of 12 months. However we would require further details in order for the extra 6 months exemption to be granted.
