A brief introduction

The Crematorium at Oakley Wood is situated just south of Bishops Tachbrook near to junction 13 of the M40. Directions and a location plan are available here. Three car parks are provided. Car park number 1 is used mainly for visitors to the Chapel of Remembrance.

The Crematorium was established in 1971, within Oakley Wood, a site having natural beauty and giving an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. There is an abundance of bird life in the grounds and quietness and patience are often rewarded by the sight of more timid species. Rabbits, grey squirrels, foxes, badgers, moles and muntjac deer are among the mammals that have made Oakley Woods their home.

It has been the constant endeavour of the Council to retain the character of the woodland setting. Restriction of memorials has, therefore, been necessary, and the planting of shrubs, trees and flowers by the public is not generally allowed.

The grounds encompass 21 acres, 7 acres of which have been set aside for a Woodland Garden of Remembrance.

Except in the Woodland Garden of Remembrance the only form of memorial permitted is the Book of Remembrance.

It is the Council’s objective that the whole of the grounds should accord with the original concept – that of a peaceful and permanent woodland.

Fees

The chapel is available for hire. For details of costs please see the council's fees and charges page.

Woodland burial

There is a natural, green burial site at Oakley Wood.
