Warwickshire wide race equality provision

The Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership provides the following range of services

  • It an independent body committed to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of racial equality
  • The Partnership will provide a direct service to individuals and the community and will work with public bodies in helping to improve equality of access to services.

The services will include

  • A range of local public access points and telephone/online to support and advise individuals and community groups on issues of discrimination, harassment, immigration etc
  • The partnership will be a catalyst for promoting equality and community cohesion and reducing conflict and misinformation. In doing this it will help public agencies work to prevent racial incident and to respond to them when they occur
  • It will work with public agencies to identify and respond to emerging issues, such as the needs of minority rural communities, gypsies and travellers and new communities settling in the area.
  • It will be able to act as a critical friend in helping public agencies to develop and monitor their Race Equality Schemes and will be able to advise them on the development of their services in appropriate ways. Nationally, the external validation of race equality schemes within police forces has revealed considerable weaknesses. Working within the partnership will help develop knowledge and avoid such criticism in other sectors as and when they come under the microscope
  • It will be an obvious delivery vehicle for special projects and services that need to be delivered in partnership, e.g., racial harassment, bullying etc
  • It would have the capacity to develop a range of services including interpretation, guidance on racially or culturally sensitive issues, publications, training etc
  • It would also have the capacity to develop its role in relation to wider equalities issues as the proposed Commission for Equalities and Human Rights begins to take shape
  • There is potential for the partnership to extend its scope to cover:
    Translation
    Consultation etc
