Local area agreement
All funding streams are now drawn together in one Area Based Grant (ABG). There are six blocks in the Local Area Agreement (LAA) and community safety is in the Safer Block. A delivery plan was piloted in April 2007 with the new funding arrangements commencing in April 2008.
Administration of the local area agreement safer block fund
The LAA is administered by Warwickshire County Council. There is a total of £2,553,664 revenue funding available in the current financial year to address five priorities. In priority order these are serious violent crime, anti-social behaviour, alcohol and drugs misuse, serious acquisitive crime and road safety. The Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership & Drug and Alcohol Action Team (WCSP &DAAT) has allocated this money to tackle the priorities but whilst the first four priorities receive £783,664 in total road safety receives £1,770,000.
South Warwickshire priorities and spending plan
The Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRP) for Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick Districts formally merged on September 12th 2008. A South Warwickshire CDRP has been operating in shadow mode in anticipation of this decision.
Whilst separate strategic assessments were carried out in 2007 the South Warwickshire CDRP agreed that anti-social behaviour and serious violent crime would be the joint priorities. Warwick District receives £80,010.97 in this financial year. The priorities each receive £35,000 with the remainder spent on intelligence led action planning and evaluation.
Basic command unit
Warwickshire Police have received £283,750 in this financial year with £119,800 allocated to the Southern area. Whilst this funding is not part of the part of the ABG it must be linked strategically to LAA and partnership plan priorities.
Safer neighbourhoods funding
Warwick District Council made £7,500 available to each of the eight Safer Neighbourhood Areas in 2007/08 and again in this financial year. The money is provided in order to deliver actions on the stated priorities of the community and can be used on both capital and revenue projects.
