Asbestos Campaign

Asbestos related disease accounts for over 3,500 deaths each year, creating what is the UK's biggest single cause of work related deaths. The occupational Safety and Health Team of Warwick District Council aims to raise the awareness of the risks associated with asbestos within the maintenance worker groups and to remind duty holders ( employers/occupiers/landlords) of their legal duties  under the 'duty to manage ' Regulation. Occupational Safety & Health - the Council's Role

We have a Service Plan and Work Programme to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of the community.

Environmental Health Practitioners

  • enforce Health and Safety legislation and give advice in relation to the workplace
  • investigate reportable accidents and official notifications (lift reports, pressure vessels, air receivers etc)
  • inspect and monitor skin piercing establishments so as to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, licensing conditions and byelaws
  • promote healthy choices
  • work in partnership with the Health & Safety Executive in tackling priority accident and disease reduction topics

Enforcement of Health and Safety legislation in the District is split between our Environmental Health Department and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), dependent upon the main activity of the business concerned.

Warwick District Council is responsible for the following types of premises:-

Information for Employees

It is a legal requirement for employers to either display an approved health and safety law poster or provide each employee with an equivalent leaflet.

The currently required poster published by HSE Books in 1999 is grey and red in colour.
