Hackney carriage (taxis)

The Council does not have a policy of restricting the number of vehicle licences which it issues but all vehicles must be new and be of a type approved by the Council with wheelchair access. Download a list of approved vehicles (PDF).

Licensed taxis can be flagged down within their respective areas and generally ply for hire. Licensed taxis can operate as private hire vehicles (i.e. can respond to pre-arranged bookings).

If you wish to apply for either a taxi drivers licence or taxi vehicle licence please contact a member of the Licensing Team on (01926) 412496 or email to licensing@warwickdc.gov.uk

If you have a complaint about a taxi please contact a member of the Licensing Team on (01926) 412496 or email to licensing@warwickdc.gov.uk , you can also complete an on line complaint form. Please ensure you  have the drivers badge number, the vehicle plate number or the vehicle registration number.

Under the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 any vehicles which sit on the taxi ranks in Kenilworth, Royal Leamington Spa and Warwick or ply for hire in the area of the former Warwick Rural District Council and their drivers need to be licensed by this Council.
