Royal Pump Rooms Redevelopment - Art Commissions
The Royal Pump Rooms redevelopment project of 1997 – 99 incorporated a number of site specific art commissions reflecting the building's history and new use. Works commissioned were:
Celia Kilner produced a spa water drinking fountain for outside the building.

Angus Ross created a reception desk, seating and the furniture for the Art Gallery & Museum, echoing the gallery's former use as a swimming pool.
David Jacobson created a unique water feature for the entrance concourse.
Martin Smith produced automata for the Museum - a model horse-powered water pump downstairs in the Museum; and model circus scene upstairs on the Mezzanine gallery.
Keith Newstead made an automata donations box.

Matt Smith created two automata for the medical room in the Museum - ‘mens sana in corpore sano’ and ‘learn to swim’.
